Connections of students, school and our community
Kamloops Chinese Cultural Association (KCCA):
We work closely with KCCA. Through them we have been connected to many events in the community, that our students can volunteer in. Some of these are:
- Waking Up Santa Parade – parade participants
- Tomb Sweeping Festival – volunteers
- Canada Day – volunteers, performers
- Snow Angels – provide service for those in need
Kamloops Triathlon Club (KTC):
KTC hosts a triathlon once per year; our students volunteer to help with the route and water provision.
Big Little Science Center:
Our students are stationed in the Big Little Science Centre every weekend.
Big Brothers & Big Sisters of Canada:
Maple Leaf has partnered with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada and SD73’s Beattie Elementary School to offer an in-school mentoring program. In this program, our grade 12 students pair with an elementary aged student to talk and act as role models. This is a unique public/private educational partnership, with valuable soft skills learning opportunity for all involved, one that we would like to continue in the coming years.
We received some Volunteer Certificates from KCCA and from TCC and some good feedback from Triathlon Club.
